Shahnaz, Nashima and Lakhshmi

Omad Ali's daughter Shahnaz Parveen (20), Ali Hussein’s daughter Nashima Begum (18), and Ayachal Haq’s daughter Maneyara Lakhshmi (20) started Nijera Shikhi literacy classes run by the NGO Adesh in Monodiya village of Savar thana.  Only six weeks after starting the classes, they got jobs in the local cotton mill.  They’d often tried to get jobs before but failed because they were illiterate.  Now their families have become self-supporting again.  The other learners have become very excited about this.  They have now caught the vision of improving their lot through education.  They are encouraged because Shahnaz, Nashima, and Lakhshmi have proved that education is about earning as well as learning.
