Our Aims and TimescalesInitial aim
Our initial aim is to re-start a people's literacy movement in Bangladesh that is sustainable. To achieve this, together with our partners in Bangladesh we aim to:
We anticipate that this initial development phase will take about five years. Long-term Nishi's long-term aim is to eradicate illiteracy from Bangladesh. We anticipate this taking up to 20 years of full scale operation. John Hastings, who founded Nijera Shikhi and developed the andragogy that Nishi uses, believed that this would be effective for any Sanskrit based language: his vision was for an illiteracy free Asia. Therefore, we are also interested in working with partners to start people's literacy movements (PLMs) in other countries to achieve our ultimate aim of an illiteracy free Asia and World. |
